In Part 1 of the workshop, teachers delved into the UK national literacy strategy, gaining valuable insights into effective approaches for teaching English writing. They had the opportunity to explore creative and innovative methods that can engage students and enhance their writing skills.
Additionally, the workshop provided a platform for teachers to discuss the real-time challenges they face in delivering excellent teaching. By sharing their experiences and exchanging ideas, they collectively worked towards finding solutions and improving their teaching practices.
In the dynamic second part of our workshop, participants put theory into practice by collaboratively planning a writing lesson, utilizing the creative techniques uncovered in Part 1.
This hands-on group task not only fostered a deeper understanding of the material but also encouraged the sharing of innovative ideas.
Furthermore, the session introduced robust reading assessment techniques, including the Assessing Pupil Progress (APP) and Assessment Focus (AFs), equipping teachers with the tools to effectively measure and support their students’ literacy journey.
In the exciting and final part of our workshop, participants were grouped according to the key stages they teach. They were provided with a reading material and tasked with coming up with interesting writing genres based on it.
This collaborative activity encouraged creativity and innovative approaches to teaching writing. Additionally, participants were introduced to Guided Reading, learning its purpose and effective implementation strategies for maximum results.
We also delved deeper into the Assessing Pupil Progress (APP) and Assessment Focus (AFs), equipping teachers with valuable tools for student assessment. To further enhance their teaching practice, participants explored Project Management in the English Curriculum, learning how to effectively manage their English lessons as projects.
Relevant resources were provided to support their teaching journey, and certificates were awarded to recognize their dedication and growth.
